Speaker Antone Davis

Antone Davis Set to Speak at RiverStone's Inaugural Health & Wellness Weekend

Former University of Tennessee All-American linebacker Antone Davis found himself weighing 447 pounds at age 44 despite his football career. After the deaths of former fellow UT teammates, Davis took a hard look at himself in the mirror and decided to change what he saw. He committed himself to living a long and healthy life with his family and lost over 200 pounds.

Antone will share his inspiring story as the opening speaker for RiverStone Resort & Spa's Inaugural Health and Wellness Weekend on January 17 - 19, 2013.  Nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., RiverStone is the area's premier luxury resort featuring world class accommodations and amenities including full service spa treatments at The Spa at RiverStone.

Antone grew up as the youngest of eight children, and at 15 years old he was 6'5" and weighed 305 pounds. He started playing at UT in the late 1980's at a weight of 350 pounds. Former UT head coach Philip Fulmer was the first person to ask Antone to lose weight and encouraged him to get down to 300.  At 19, he had never thought about his long term health and always believed bigger was better, especially in football. He then went on to play for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons, and retired in 1997

In 2011, feeling like he was slowly dying, Antone decided to make a change and auditioned for the 12th season of NBC's "The Biggest Loser." Six months later he dropped from 447 to 245 pounds, and was the first runner up and fan favorite on the show.

Today, Antone lives again in Knoxville, Tenn. He maintains a diet of 2,200 calories per day, exercising regularly and eating properly. His transformation is evident from both his slimmer physique and the active lifestyle he now leads with his family. He has also found a calling in "paying it forward" by helping others regain their lives.

Robin Jones, Director of Group Events for RiverStone, shared, "One of the most frequently made New Year's resolutions is to lose weight or to live a healthier lifestyle and it is the also the most broken. Our Health and Wellness Weekend was created to help with these goals and offer the complete package to get you off to the right start."

The Health and Wellness Weekend kicks off at the Resort on Thursday January 17 at 6:30 pm with a Welcome Dinner featuring Antone Davis as the keynote speaker. Friday January 18 and Saturday January 19 will be filled with activities, classes and demonstrations designed for inspiring a healthy lifestyle. The event will also feature delicious meals designed by a registered nutritionist and prepared by a chef, as well as time for appointments at The Spa at RiverStone to Relax, Rejuvenate and Renew.
